Penny Skolski August 20th Reggae Party! Presented by Shopper's Drug Mart & Subway |
|
| Penny Skolski is one of Canada’s most sought after vocal talents emerging from the Toronto music scene. Her training began at The Etobicoke School of the Arts, continued with operatic instruction and is currently playing live on the club circuit in and around the GTA. Musical pursuits have led her to exotic locales worldwide, including performing at Sandals Negril, the now infamous Rick’s Cafe in Jamaica and landing her on the stages of the Casino Hohensyburg in Dortmund, Germany, acting in the sixties musical “Summer of Love.” She is currently working on musical scores for TV and film with composer Varouje. Her list of credits include a series airing in Europe and now released in North America on TMN “The Line”, with Linda Hamilton and Ed Asner. Her love of Reggae and Caribbean music was never more apparent than when she was the vocalist on the CD “The Unity Band - Let’s Return to Love”. The Unity Band was an All Star collection of Toronto musicians under the guidance of Pat Carey from the Downchild Blues Band. In 2001, Penny landed a weekly show at a popular west end Toronto night club and assembled a band to play reggae and R&B. Along with playing many of the popular Bob Marley reggae songs, Penny puts these classic R&B tunes “through the Penny Machine” and re-invents them in a reggae style. You’ll hear many songs that you recognize with an invigorating island twist. Featured members of Penny’s band are Brian “The Library” Gauci on lead guitar, Bruce “Long Hair” Longman on guitar and vocals, and “The James Gang” in the rhythm section - James “The American” Rasmussen on bass and James “the guy from Fenwick” Casson on drums. |
