July 18 Welland Port Colborne Concert Association presents Forever Young - Tribute to Rod Stewart Touring the globe, life-long Canadian musician, songwriter and recording artist, Doug Varty, has made it his mission to give people what they’re looking for in live entertainment. “When my band and I used to play Rod Stewart covers in pubs, people would often ask me if I was lip-syncing to a track because of the striking similarity between myself and Mr. Stewart’s voices”, says Doug. “When I assured them that it was really me, they’d insist that me doing a Rod tribute show would be a big hit. Though a little reluctant at first to wear the wig and the shiny suits, I started out in the tribute biz about twenty years ago and quickly learned to embrace the opportunity to become someone else, just for a while.” |

August 22 Lookout Ridge Retirement Home presents Alex Pangman & Her Alley Cats Although Alex Pangman grew up a couple of generations late to have sung with Teddy Wilson, the vibrant vocalist is proud to be known as Canada's Sweetheart of Swing. With pipes aplenty, Juno nominee Pangman possesses the requisite taste, talent and the historical knowledge of an avid record collector to breathe new life into the sturdy standards of the classic jazz era. She's also a broadcaster on JAZZ.FM91 on her program Swing Set, where she shares the records and stories of the swinging music that began to take shape in the 1920s, hit its stride in the ’30s and ’40s, and continues to be played by artists today.
